Helena Otero Correa, Carla Obach Esteban, Ailen Lazo Martín and Laura Allès  Pascual are the members of Quartet Vela. The quartet was formed in 2012 in the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, where they studied. After continuing their studies in other European countries (Netherlands, Germany, France and Denmark), in 2016 they moved to Aarhus (Denmark). There, they combined their performances as a professional group with the completion of masters and postgraduates in the Royal Academy of Music Aarhus.

 

In 2019, Quartet Vela was awarded with a scholarship in the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu de Barcelona, where their members studied a master's degree on chamber music. At the moment, the quartet has set their residence in Barcelona, ​​although they continue making tours throughout Europe.

Among other awards and distinctions, it is worth noting that in the 2017 Quartet Vela won the third price in the P2 Kammermusikkonkurrence the Danish Radio, the biggest chamber music competition in Denmark happening every 3 years. Last February, the group was awarded with the Silver Medal in the 2nd International Vienna Music Competition, in the chamber music category.

The last project of the quartet is the recording of their first album ‘Vistes al mar’ (Gazing at the see), a production which includes music from composers related to Catalonia and Chile.

 

During their time in Denmark, they performed concerts in music halls such as Musikhuset Aarhus, Musikkens Hus Aalborg and the Danish Radio. Quartet Vela has participated in various festivals and classical music cycles: Bornholms Festival, Rued Langgaard Festival (Denmark), Festspiele Mark Brandenburg (Germany), Festival Palma de Primavera (Majorca, Spain).
